Two months ago today we did our shore line clean up! It was a great success and we collected a lot of garbage. We found various very small pieces of plastic that easily could’ve been digested by marine life. Sadly our biggest collection was cigarettes with 147 of them. On one beach!
One thing we had never really thought about before was the environmental impact of outdoor parties. A group near a picnic table we assume had a gender reveal as pink coloured confetti littered a very large area of the grass. We spent over 40 minutes trying to rid the grass of this plastic but it was very very hard to clean up. This plastic could very easily have been digested and killed wildlife, just so a small group can have a short surprise. Think before you act! Shoreline clean ups are said to be excellent at the shore acts as a filter for the ocean and if we can get this litter before it reaches the ocean we can save lives! Overall it was a very positive and good experience to remind us how much we have an impact on other animals.
